We've been building pergolas with solid insulated roofs since day one. They're weatherproof, thermally comfortable, and they look incredible. But not everyone wants a lid on their outdoor space — and for those people, we've built something new.

Open skies. Luxe vibes. Two versions. One open-air philosophy.
The Luxe Cantilever® Aero is our first open-air slatted pergola. No insulated panel, no solid ceiling — just precision-spaced aluminium battens over the same signature two-post cantilever frame our customers know and trust. Light filters through. Air moves freely. In the morning and afternoon when the sun is lower and angled, the battens intercept the light and cast shade underneath. As the sun climbs to its peak overhead, light passes straight through the gaps between the slats.
It's a different kind of Luxe. And it comes in two versions.
TWO VERSIONS, ONE PHILOSOPHY
Both share the same heavy-duty powder-coated aluminium frame as the Luxe Cantilever® Lite — engineered, wind-tested, and bolted to an existing 150mm slab. No piers required. But above that frame, they take a very different approach.
Luxe Cantilever® Aero — The architectural one

Wide 50×50mm battens, a rear privacy screen, a bold 100×50mm front feature batten, and aluminium trim strips along both sides. A structure you build your outdoor space around.
Battens: 50×50mm aluminium
Rear screen: Yes (standard)
Front batten: 100×50mm feature
Side trim: Aluminium strips
Max size: 4m × 3m
Luxe Cantilever® Aero Lite — The refined one

Slim individually-capped battens, no rear screen, no heavy trim. Clean lines that sit in their environment rather than competing with it.
Battens: 66×18mm, individually capped
Rear screen: No — fully open
Front batten: No
Side trim: No
Max size: 4m × 3m
WHY WE BUILT IT
We've always said the Luxe Cantilever® is about more than shade, it's about creating a space with intention. But the more we talked to customers, the more we heard the same thing: they loved the Luxe look, but they didn't want to lose the sky.
Poolside entertaining. Garden retreats. Alfresco dining on a warm Australian evening. These are spaces where connection to the outdoors isn't a compromise, it's the whole point. The Aero was built for exactly those situations.

One of the things that surprised us most during development was how dramatic the shadow play becomes. In the morning, the angled sun hits the battens and casts long parallel lines across the deck. As the day progresses and the sun climbs, those shadow lines shift and compress. By late afternoon, the patterns return golden, warm, raking light through the slats.
It's not something a solid roof can do. The Aero turns sunlight into a design feature.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The Aero is an open-air structure. It is not weatherproof, rain will pass through the slats. That's by design. If you need full overhead weather protection, the Luxe Cantilever® Lite is the right product for your space.
The Aero is for fair-weather entertaining, poolside shade, and outdoor spaces where the feeling of being connected to the elements is more important than being sealed off from them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What's the difference between the Aero and the Aero Lite?
The Aero uses wider 50×50mm battens and includes a rear privacy screen, a 100×50mm front feature batten, and side trim strips, it's the more architectural, enclosure defining option. The Aero Lite uses slimmer 66×18mm individually capped battens with no screen and no additional trim, it's the minimalist choice. If you want presence and privacy, choose the Aero. If you want refined simplicity, the Aero Lite is your pick.
Does it actually provide shade?
Yes - in the morning and afternoon when the sun is lower and angled, the battens intercept the light and cast shade underneath. When the sun is directly overhead, light passes straight through the gaps between the slats. The Aero works best for east or west-facing spaces where morning or afternoon shade is the priority.
Will it keep rain out?
No - and that's intentional. The slatted design is open by nature. If you need full weather protection, the Luxe Cantilever® Lite with its insulated roof is the right product. The Aero is designed for fair-weather entertaining where connection to the environment is the priority.
Can the rear screen on the Aero extend to the ground?
Yes - the rear screen can be extended all the way to the ground for additional privacy and a more enclosed feel. Additional cost applies. Just mention this at enquiry stage and your installer will incorporate it into the design.
Does it need council approval?
Approval requirements are governed by your location, property type, and structure size the same as all Luxe models. The Aero range's maximum footprint of 4×3m often makes it more likely to qualify as Exempt Development under NSW planning policy. Your authorised installer will confirm the approval pathway for your specific site.
Can I add lighting or a ceiling fan?
The open slatted roof isn't designed to carry downlights or ceiling fans, that's a feature of the insulated roof models. For lighting and fan add-ons, the Luxe Cantilever® Lite is the right choice.
What sizes are available?
Both the Aero and Aero Lite are available in the same size range as the Luxe Cantilever® Lite: 4×3m, 3×3m, 3×2m, 2×2m, and 2×1m. Custom sizes are available, just ask. Length can also be extended with additional support posts.
How long does installation take?
Both Aero models are typically completed in one to two days on-site. Overall project timeline from enquiry to installation is typically 3-6 weeks, covering design confirmation, any approval assessment, material ordering, and scheduling. Your installer will confirm a project-specific timeline at the quote stage.
Is it available supply-only?
Yes. Like all Luxe Cantilever® products, the Aero range is available supply-only for customers who have their own licensed builder. We deliver a made-to-measure kit directly to your site. Contact us to discuss your project.
