Which Luxe Cantilever Pergola Model Is Right For Me?

Your backyard deserves more than a basic 4-post tin roofed pergola. Choosing the right Luxe Cantilever can turn it into a space you actually want to spend time in. With three models the Lite, the Original, and the Max there is a pergola or carport to suit almost any front or backyard. Which model should you choose? We will break down the detailed differences between each of the models and where they work best!

Luxe Cantilever Lite: The King of Smaller Spaces

If you are working with a smaller outdoor space, the Luxe Cantilever Lite is your best option. It is designed for any area under 4 x 3 metres in size (length x projection). It is a more cost-effective option because we switch from a steel frame to high-grade aluminium, which is strong yet lightweight and perfect for smaller structures where the weight demands are not as high. We've installed it over pools, BBQ areas, outdoor lounges, patios and courtyards to create the perfect open, shaded, and protected space.

Roof:

The Lite comes with an insulated roof that can be either 50mm or 75mm thick. We usually recommend the 75mm option because it gives the same heat-resistant performance as the Original Luxe Cantilever and in our opinion looks a little better proportioned than the 50mm.

The Luxe Lite also comes with the Spacemaker roofing profile and the ceiling in limited (but our most popular) finishes. If you are specific on having a different roof profile like the Corrolink or Versalink then the Luxe Cantilever original might be your best bet. Frame:

The frame itself is crafted from extremely high-grade aluminium, giving it strength without adding unnecessary weight. Visually, the Lite differs from the Original model in that you can see some small bolt heads on the sides of the posts.

The bolts are painted to match the frame colour so they blend in almost completely. The bolts are functional, providing extra strength to help the Lite stand up to windy conditions, making it a reliable choice even in exposed areas.

Accessories:

Fans, lights, and security cameras can all be added to the Luxe Cantilever Lite, just like the other models. Because the frame is made from aluminium, we don’t recommend attaching heavy suspended items such as hanging chairs. If that’s what you’re after, the Luxe Cantilever Original or Max would be the better choice.

Installation:

One of the best things about the Luxe Cantilever Lite is how quick and easy it is to install. Give us a couple of days and you’ll be sitting under your new Luxe Cantilever, enjoying the shade. The Lite can be bolted directly to an existing concrete slab (as long as it’s at least 200mm thick), or we can install concrete piers for a secure base if needed.

In short:

• Use the Luxe Cantilever Lite for spaces up to 4m x 3m (length x projection), where a few visible bolts on the frame aren’t an issue. If you prefer a fully concealed, seamless steel frame with a clean architectural finish, choose the Luxe Cantilever Original.

• For applications under 4m x 3m which require additional structural strength, custom roof or ceiling profiles use the Luxe Cantilever Original.

Luxe Cantilever Original

The Luxe Cantilever Original is the go-to for larger outdoor spaces. Its standard sizes range from 4m x 3m up to 6m x 4m, and it is built with a heavy-duty steel frame that gives it serious strength and presence. We usually install the Luxe Cantilever over larger pool areas, outdoor patios and lounges, and carports. It can also be customised for smaller areas under 4m x 3m where extra strength or wind resistance is required.

You can also choose a thicker insulated roof up to 100mmto achieve even better thermal performance than the Lite. This keeps your outdoor area cooler in summer and warmer in winter, so you can enjoy it year-round.

Frame

The steel frame gives the Original its strength and versatility. It can support heavier loads, which means hanging furniture, hammocks, or other suspended features are all possible. With a size range up to 6m x 4m, it works beautifully over pools and larger patio areas, and it’s also perfect as a single carport. The cantilevered design means there are no front posts to get in your way when driving onto your driveway, and with no visible bolts, the frame achieves a clean, high-end architectural finish.

Accessories

The Luxe Cantilever Original can be fitted with the same accessories as the Lite, including fans, lights, and security cameras. Plus, with its stronger steel frame, you have more flexibility to add heavier or custom fittings to suit your setup. Contact us if you have specific load rating requirements.

Installation

Unlike the Lite, the Luxe Cantilever Original cannot be bolted to an existing concrete slab. It requires concrete piers to be installed to provide the correct structural support for its size and weight. For larger projects, multiple Luxe Cantilevers can also be linked together by adding additional posts, creating a continuous run of shade and coverage that’s practically endless.

In short:

• Use the Luxe Cantilever Original for outdoor spaces and carports up to 6m x 4m (length x projection), where strength and customisation are key requirements that the Lite doesn’t meet.

Luxe Cantilever Max: Built for Bigger Spaces and Tough Conditions

The Luxe Cantilever Max is built on the same design principles as the Original, but to accommodate larger roofing sizes, the frame and posts are beefed up to handle the additional weight. This makes it ideal for expansive patios, large pool areas, or spacious carports, with sizes ranging up to 6m x 6m or 7m x 4m (length x projection). Its heavy-duty steel frame ensures stability, durability, and a sleek, high-end look even in larger configurations.

Roof

The Max comes with a fully insulated roof, with thickness options up to 100mm, delivering superior thermal performance. This keeps your outdoor space comfortable in summer and winter, even with its larger footprint. The wider roof spans also allow for more coverage, making it perfect for large entertaining or living areas.

Frame

The frame is made from heavy-duty steel and built to handle the additional weight of larger roof panels. This gives it incredible strength while maintaining a seamless aesthetic. The robust posts and frame ensure the pergola remains stable in high winds.

As with the Lite and Original models, the Max can be fitted with fans, lights, and security cameras. Its stronger frame allows you to add heavier or custom accessories or hanging furniture, giving you flexibility to tailor the space exactly to your needs.

Installation

Due to its size and structural requirements, the Luxe Cantilever Max cannot be bolted to an existing slab. Concrete piers must be installed to ensure full stability and safety. This is especially important for larger spans or high-wind locations.

In short:

• Use the Luxe Cantilever Max for roof sizes larger than 6m x 4m or for when really high structurual strength is required.
